This is a doublet, made to a clients specification.

My client provided the shot taffeta, silk samite, and pewter buttons which you
can see in these pictures.

As he supplied all of these materials in huge quantities, I was quite spoilt (for
once)!

The grey silk samite used for the outer of the doublet had a very large pattern
(repeating only around every 1.2m).  Because of this, there was quite a lot of
waste involved in matching the pattern at the seams and edges.  However, as
can be seen in the photographs, I was quite successful in achieving the match.

The doublet is interlined with a cotton wadding, to give it weight (the flimsiness
of the fabrics would not allow the doublet to hang properly if left to themselves).
The doublet fastens at the centre front with the pewter buttons supplied.

The sleeves are actually curved in shape (not that you could tell from the
pictures!), and they are open to the elbow, fastening with more of the pewter
buttons.

In total the doublet has almost 6 dozen buttons and buttonholes.

As is suggested in the below shots of the red lining of the doublet, the doublet is
completely hand finished (meaning that I sewed all of those buttonholes by
hand!)
