Herringbone Wool Norman Tunic
Norman man and woman
Two outfits, some items made to order, some items taken from our
limited stock, for Chesterfield Museum and Art Gallery.

These outfits were worn on the occasion of a visit to Chesterfield
by HM The Queen.

The man's outfit consists of a linen undertunic (not seen, for
obvious reasons), a woollen tunic in a herringbone twill pattern and
trimmed with woollen tablet braid hand made by Steve 'the Weave',
hosen and braies, a dark green woollen hood, and finally, a semi
circular cloak, in a green / grey (almost tweed) patterned wool.

The woman's outfit comprises a linen underdress (again not seen), a
woollen dress, in blue with red contrasting gores and sleeve linings,
a mantle, and a veil.

At the request of the client, (the lady in the picture), the dress was
left unhemmed, so that she could hem it herself (she explained that
she likes hand sewing).
