| A 1930s 3-piece suit, made for a client who owns and runs classic cars. I made the mistake of saying vintage cars once, but they aren't old enough to be called that!. He wanted as close a match as he could get to an original 30s suit that he had once owned. This is proper tailoring! I cut a modern pattern (to allow for the modern figure), which I then shaped to match a 1930s suit. The suit, which is made in pure wool suiting, is fully lined, interlined and padded. I used a heavier fabric than would be used in a modern suit. Suitings have generally got much lighter since the 1970s and 1980s, and they barely resemble the fabrics used in the early part of the last century any more. The trousers have a button fly, two front pockets, and turn ups at the hems. The waistcoat is made without collars or revers, but with watch pockets. It has a false (lining fabric) back, and an adjustable back belt. The jacket has two flapped pockets, in addition to the visible handkerchief pocket. It has a back vent, and fully functioning buttons at the cuffs. I must thank my customer for supplying a photograph of the finished article. |
