| The outfit of a late Saxon or early Norman woman. The outfit consists of: a dark red woollen dress, in the shorter style of approximately the 11th century, with three quarter length sleeves, ending in wide cuffs; a pink linen underdress, full length, because it is to be seen, and with full length sleeves; a woollen braid girdle, weighted with beads at the ends. As shown below left, the neckline of the dress is trimmed with handwoven linen tablet braid, made by Steve 'the Weave'. This outfit found its home with a theatre group in Berwick |
